Samsung is happily flaunting the world’s first chip compatible with the North American mobile digital TV broadcasting standard. The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) that works towards standardizing mobile digital TV officially adopted DTV as an ATSC standard.

The new chip is based on 65-nm process that combines the radio frequency (RF) and digital chip components making it more compact and power efficient, apt for portable devices.

Consumers will be able to enjoy live mobile broadcast TV with access to free content like weather info, news as well as entertainment and other paid services.

70 broadcast stations have confirmed to support the initiative and will broadcast the content on a trial basis by the end of 2009.
