Lee Kun-hee who had resigned couple of years back following his fraud and ethics scandal will join the Korean conglomerate soon. Lee, 68 will join the Samsung Group as a chairman of memory chips, mobile phones and TV units (Samsung Electronics) but won’t serve on the Board of Directors.
Lee Kun-hee is the son of the founder, Lee Byung-chul and this move is said to keep the South Korean tradition alive by keeping some company control in the founding family but also allowing a professional management to carry out daily operations.
Lee Kun-hee was convicted last year for illegal bond transactions but was pardoned South Korean President Lee Myung-bak so that he can help South Korea win the bid to host 2018 Winter Olympics.
