Samsung and nine other memory chip makers have been fined by EU commission over price fixing of the memory chips. A total of 331 million euros fine was levied with Samsung bearing the biggest penalty of 145.73 million euros.
The cartel was in existence from 1 July 1998 to 15 June 2002 where the companies shared vital information and coordinated price levels and quotation of DRAMs sold to computer manufacturers.
Micron was exempted from the penalty because they were the first ones to notify the EU Commission about the existence of such a cartel.
