According to a report released by Gartner, Samsung became the leader in the application processor market in 2009. Samsung acquired 39.2 percent market share toppling down Texas Instrument who came in third with 18.9 percent (as compared to 30.9 percent in 2008). Japan-based Renesas Technology Corp. came in second with 27.7 percent market share.

Samsung says the demand for their APs rose due to the development of their high-performance chips with lower power consumption.
