IDC released a report last week that highlighted companies capturing the highest smartphone market share for Q2 2010. The report titled Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, claims that a total of 63 million units were shipped in the second quarter and manufacturers adopting the Android OS like HTC and Samsung posted the highest year-over-year growth.
Samsung’s success of Galaxy S ensured the Korean giant fifth place in the smartphone market after HTC and ousting Motorola, who maintained the fifth position in the last quarter.
Samsung’s shipped a total of 3m smartphones and captured a market share of 4.8 percent which is a 172.7 percent rise as compared to the same quarter last year.
IDC says Samsung will capture more market share as Galaxy S reaches more countries and carriers, including a series of phones to North America.
