A new Galaxy S variant meant for the US market has been caught in a leaked document by Engadget. The phone is called as the Transform and is meant for Sprint. The leak is interesting because Sprint already has a Galaxy S variant, which is the only one with a physical keyboard and 4G.
This on the other hand, seems to have a new form factor and if Engadget’s guess is correct, the phone won’t have 4G. The keyboard? Well, they’re not sure but the name ‘Transform’ suggests that it could have one.

The FCC documents say QWERTY keypad, so I think it may just be the Epic without 4g

@Mark: Can you confirm the model number?

The FCC document lists it as the SPH-920 which is why people were at first in august suggesting that this Samsung phone was hitting sprint due to the SPH prefix, the fact that it’s in the 900 series with the moment and the intercept, and that in the HAC Production Key Feature Letter, that Samsung submitted to the FCC has that this SPH-920 will have:
Bluetooth
MP3 Player
Google android handset
WLAN
3M AF camera
QWERTY keypad

Though, that the “Transform” is the SPH-920 is all just here-say, I don’t believe anyone knows for sure as of right now. The FFC can’t release pictures of the phone until February 12, 2011 per the 180 confidentiality request. Samsung could release the SPH-920 before that date, which I believe most likely, but could wait up until that day also.

“Following a story that circulated yesterday regarding Sprint receiving the Sanyo Zio and Samsung Transform, a Sprint tipster reached out to us with some updated information. According to the document they sent over, both devices are available for ordering and will be available through select channels beginning on October 10th.
While it’s anyone’s guess what the Samsung Transform is, I spent some time with the Zio at CTIA in March, and the unresponsive touchscreen and antequated operating system (Android 1.6) really hindered what would have otherwise been a decent mid-range device. That said, my initial hands-on were in March, so it’s entirely possible that the kinks have been worked out. What’s more, given Sprint’s history of timely Android OS updates, I have to wonder if this device will launch with Android 2.1. At any rate, we’ll find out soon – October 10th is right around the corner.”
That’s how I’m taking it right now. The tenth is a little over a week away!

Couldn’t edit but for the sake of correction any time I wrote SPH-920, should’ve said SPH-M920
