Samsung today announced that they’ve started mass producing 3.5-inch 100GB and 200GB SSDs meant for the enterprise market. These new SSDs are touted to be beneficial to businesses and help them to lower their total cost of ownership over time as it increases performance and decreases power consumption.

The SSDs are based on 40nm single-level-cell (SLC) NAND flash chips and support 3Gb/s SATA interface, allowing SSDs to process random read commands at 47,000 inputs/outputs per second (IOPS) and write commands at 29,000 IOPS, which is 130X and 80X higher when compared to a 15K RPM HDD.

Enterprise-centric features include lower power consumption (about 30 percent lower compared to HDD storage), end-to-end data protection function, advanced data encryption and faster read/write speeds with 200GB SSD achieving about 260MB/s sequential read speed and 245MB/s as a sequential write speed.

EMC will be the first recipient of these drives.
