Samsung has remained bullish not only on its Galaxy Tab device but also on the tablet market as a whole. However, analyst Ashok Kumar from Rodman & Renshaw is on the opposite end, who in his research note says that tablet market will suffer in sales due to consumers opting for smartphones or laptops.
Kumar also claims that his talks with suppliers suggest that Galaxy Tab’s production has been cut down by a whopping 50 percent.
We certainly have our apprehensions on this claim but if this is true, Samsung’s target of selling more than 6 million Galaxy Tabs looks uncertain.

That doesn’t surprise me. It’s priced too high. I looked at one yesterday. It’s a beautiful device and I totally want one to go right alongside my Vibrant. But at $600 it’s too expensive. My eyes are going towards the Archos 70 Internet Tablet or the Archos 101 Internet Tablet. The 70 has the same size display and is going to go for $275. Not to mention their 250GB Archos 70 model… That or I will get a Archos 101, 10.1″ for $300? Hell ya I’m passing on the Galaxy Tab. Besides the fact that I looked at the T-mobile sales girl yesterday and said so the Galaxy Tab is $400 with a contact at $40/mo for unlimited data. Or $600 with no contract. You just told me I could buy a tethering plan for $15/mo to share my unlimited data from my phone. So that is $25 difference per month. $25 x 24 months is a lot. She just looked at me like I was crazy for thinking about those things.

i don’t think it is the price. i like many, are waiting for the wifi version or the new galaxy s with the 4.5″ display, or the next g-tab even with the SAMOLED display, etc…

I got one and i really like it. But yes, it is kinda expensive.

OF COURSE its the price
its more expensive than the equivalent ipad ROTFL
what are consumers going to think esp when the first reaction is: ‘why is the smaller one more expensive’.
techies know the tablet ecosystem is not in place yet for android, even google has said so, lack of tablet size optimised apps + high cost + imminent android upgrades coming downstream which may or may not work well + samsung themselves anouncing new hardware in 6 months = why pay through the nose for a paid beta? LOL
If they priced it a bit above the archos offerings then they’re in with a shout but as it stands, they’ve priced themselves out of the market. I’m getting an archos myself, they’re cheap enough that the lack of android tablet apps etc. is not that great a concern, hey it only cost me 350 or whatever, but if I’m paying nearly double that I’me expecting a lot more polish

I’m not surprised. A Sprint salesperson told me they had only sold 2 since Sunday. The contracts and data plans are way too expensive and not in line with the same data one can purchase with their smart phone. Why in the world would Sprint, Verizon, etal, price their data so high and gouge their customers? I can add another line to my Sprint account for $20/month with unlimited data and text.
Why in the world would I buy a Galaxy Tab (other than it’s cool) and pay $60/month for only 5GB of data – Sprint “you’re out of your collective minds”. This product will fail at this price point. These are not full sized and capable portable computers, they are additional appliances for email and text and quick communications and perhaps book reading.
B&N is selling a Color Nook for only $249 that does many of the same things. Any Google has already said Android is not yet optimized for tablet use.
Cell carrier – price the data at the same rate as a phone and you’ll sell more and sign up more customers and maybe sell a phone with the tablet. Suggestion…sell the phone and tablet as a package and share the data plane, maybe with a small bump in price.
People/businesses willing to buy business data plans at a $60 price point will probably buy an air card first that they can use in their business device as they need to access their office networks and VPNs. Corporate IT department are not likely to allow Galaxy Tabs to access these networks at least for now, so price this as an additional appliance and package it with a persons cell account…Just some thoughts.

I personally do not listen to analyst when they talk about tablets. Some analyst said the Apple Ipad was not going to sell well. They missed the ball on that one.
