A visit from Apple’s Tim Cook to South Korea has given way to an interesting rumor. According to Korea Herald’s sources, Cook visited Samsung for a possible deal of AMOLED displays. Apple apparently wants to use Samsung’s energy-efficient and vivid AMOLED display for use in the next-generation and was even willing to pay an advance for the displays.
Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad 2, considered as many by the iPad 3 that is likely to be launched toward the end of this year.
A spokesperson with Samsung Mobile Display however, turned down the rumor saying “he has not heard of such discussions.”
Addendum: Oled-display states that Samsung is not in a position to deliver larger-sized AMOLED displays to Apple since the 5.5 gen line for tablets has been delayed till next year.
