Samsung today announced that construction of its 5.5 generation line for AMOLED displays has been completed. As per the last quarter, Samsung Mobile Display holds a 99 percent market share of the AMOLED market and with the plant starting 2 months early, Samsung will be able to produce more AMOLED panels and thus maintain its leadership.

The production line is situated in Tangjeong, South Korea and will produce 1300x1500mm glass substrates, making it three times larger than the 4.5 generation line. The glass substrates will be used for smartphones and tablets.

As Samsung continues to invest more in AMOLED technology, the Korean giant has also promised to generate about 3,000 new jobs.
