Samsung Electronics confirmed that they’ve appointed the former research chief of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Liang Mong-song as their Vice President for Research & Development.

TSMC is the world’s largest semiconductor foundry and uses a 28nm process, superior to Samsung.

The appointment of Liang will be crucial for Samsung’s semiconductor and foundry business as Liang worked at Samsung’s biggest semiconductor rival for 17 years and holds many key patents under his name.
