Samsung signs an agreement with Microsoft, will pay royalty on Android devices

September 28, 2011 By kunal 1 Comment

Samsung and Microsoft have entered into an agreement that will make Samsung pay royalties to Microsoft for every Android phone or tablet sold. In addition to the licensing agreement, both companies will also cross-license their patent portfolios. This is a huge announcement as Samsung is one of the largest Android manufacturer and has agreed to pay royalties after HTC.

Moreover, Samsung will help Microsoft in developing and marketing the next generation of Windows Phones.

Through the cross-licensing of our respective patent portfolios, Samsung and Microsoft can continue to bring the latest innovations to the mobile industry. We are pleased to build upon our long history of working together to open a new chapter of collaboration beginning with our Windows Phone “Mango” launch this fall.
