Sony is in talks with Samsung to terminate their LCD panel production joint venture, S-LCD. According to a report by Japan’s Mainchi Daily News, Sony is hoping to reach an agreement with the Korean company by the end of the year. Both companies have 50 percent share each in the venture with Samsung holding an extra share.
The reason for Sony to end the partnership is due to the cheap procurement of panels from Taiwanese manufacturers than from its own joint venture.
Meanwhile Sony issued an official statement saying no announcement has been made and has no comment on the issue.
Certain media reports were published on October 30, 2011 (JST) regarding S-LCD Corporation, an equity affiliate of Sony Corporation (“Sony”). Sony has made no announcement in this regard and has no comment.
