Samsung Electronics mulling to merge Samsung Mobile Display

February 7, 2012 By kunal Leave a Comment

Samsung Electronics revealed in a filing to the Korea Stock Exchange that they may take over the OLED and LCD panel producing unit – Samsung Mobile Display (SMD). SMD is an unlisted subsidiary which was formed by Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI with the Electronics division holding a stake of more than 60 percent.

Samsung Electronics says the merger will help them to “improve the synergy” as they’re the biggest customers of SMD’s OLED panels.

SMD produces around 90 percent of the world’s AMOLED displays.
