Building on the decades-long partnership, Samsung Display Co. and Corning Singapore Holdings Private Limited will setup a TFT-LCD plant in China. They’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Wuxi New District, China to manufacture TFT-LCD glass substrates.

The plant will leverage Corning’s LCD substrate technology along with Samsung’s expertise and will supply substrates to Samsung Suzhou LCD.

Both companies will invest up to $600 million over the next few years and will have Gen 8 (2,200 x 2,500 mm) glass-melting and finishing capability.

Construction is expected to start by end of this year with production slated to begin in late 2013.
