Austin Plant

UPDATE: Samsung yesterday released a statement to the Korean Stock Exchange regarding this investment. Samsung responded with the statement below.

Samsung Electronics is considering expanding SAS’ production capacity for system LSI in order to meet increasing demand. Negotiation with the Texas State Government is currently underway including investment amount and details have not been decided yet.

Samsung confirmed yesterday to invest $4 billion in its Austin, Texas-based chip manufacturing plant. The plant that mainly produces chips for Apple devices will have a revamped chip production line that will allow Samsung to manufacture more system chips used in mobile phones and tablets.

Samsung earlier this year, announced to build a new plant in South Korea and convert two memory chip lines to logic chip to increase the production of SoCs.
