Samsung Fixes USSD Vulnerability in Galaxy S III

September 26, 2012 By kunal Leave a Comment

Galaxy S II

Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy S III is safe from the USSD vulnerability that was revealed yesterday. A new OTA update has been rolled out for Galaxy S III users that prevents auto execution of the USSD code.

Samsung released the following statement to Slashgear:

We would like to assure our customers that the recent security issue concerning the GALAXY S III has already been resolved through a software update. We recommend all GALAXY S III customers to download the latest software update, which can be done quickly and easily via the Over-The-Air (OTA) service.

At a security conference, a researcher showcased Touchwiz-enabled Samsung Galaxy devices execute the USSD command by visiting just a web page. However, a quick test by us revealed some non-Samsung devices can also execute the USSD code without asking for user’s consent.
