Samsung successfully tapes out 14nm-based test chips

December 21, 2012 By kunal Leave a Comment

Samsung has announced that they’ve signed an agreement with ARM for 14nm physical and IP libraries and managed to successfully tape out some test chips based on 14nm FinFET process technology.

Samsung says the chips processed with 14nm FinFET technology enable PC-like performance with low power consumption.

Samsung along with its partners taped out an ARM Cortex-A7 processor implementation with big.LITTLE configuration and SRAM-based chip.

For its customers, Samsung has also released its Process Design Kit (PDK) that enables them to start designing with models, design rule manuals and technology files based on the silicon results from previous 14nm FinFET test chips.
