Three different reports from three research companies but the result is the same – Samsung is the leader in the smartphone market. According to Strategy Analytics, Samsung shipped a whopping 213 million smartphones in 2012, including 63 million units in Q4 alone. Strategy Analytics notes this is the largest number recorded by them, even besting Nokia’s 100 million units in 2010.
While we don’t have a full-year shipment numbers from ABI Research, they say Samsung grew its handsets shipment by 21.6 percent and smartphone shipments by 123.8 percent in 2012. ABI claims Samsung to have shipped 60 million smartphones and IDC pegs at 63.7 million for Q4 2012.
As for the top 3 smartphone vendors – Strategy Analytics puts Samsung, Apple and Nokia at the top whereas IDC reckons Samsung, Apple and Huawei as the top-tier vendors.
