Galaxy S4 Hands-on

Galaxy S4 Hands-on

Samsung launched the Galaxy S4 in India this week and I managed to spend some time with the device. It’s the Exynos 5 Octa version (I9500) is sold here in India and is now selling for a price of around Rs. 41,500. Some retailers are even selling it under Rs. 40,000.

My first impression of the Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is that its nicely built. Sure, it does not have a metallic body like the HTC One but the Galaxy S4 does look durable. Looks-wise there’s not much to tell when you place the phone besides the predecessor – Galaxy S III but the good part is that Samsung has managed to cram in a 5-inch display in a chassis similar in height to the Galaxy S III.

The Exynos 5 Octa variant features 8-cores but only 4-cores work at a time. For lighter intensive tasks, it’s the Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.2GHz each that does the work whereas for heavy lifting, it’s the Cortex-A15 clocked at 1.6GHz that comes into action.

The phone runs Android 4.2.2 out of the box and other software enhancements like the Air View, Smart Pause, Multi-Window, Smart Scroll work like a charm. On the camera front, there’s a 13MP at the back and a 2MP on the front, both supporting 1080p video. There are various camera modes to improve and enhance the images.

While a detailed review will be published in the coming weeks, you can check out some of the images and video below.
