No $100 LTE phone from Samsung, claims Economic Times

Earlier this year, we reported Samsung and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) were in talks to sell $100 LTE-enabled handsets that will work on Reliance Jio Infocomm’s network. However, according to a report by Economic Times, the deal is off as Samsung is unwilling to provide handsets for Rs. 5,000.

Apparently, Samsung quoted Rs. 8,500/unit if Reliance committed to buy 3 million handsets or Rs. 11,000 per handset without any minimum order.

If true, this bodes bad news for consumers and Reliance who promised to launch the service nationally within the next 12 months.
