Samsung last week announced the mass production of the world’s fastest embedded memory and the industry’s first eMMC 5.0 in capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
Samsung says the new eMMC will be used for next-generation smartphones and tablets and boasts an interface speed of 400MB/s that offers 10X speed improvement compared to a Class 10 memory card. Furthermore, the 32GB and 64GB chips have a sequentially read speed at 250MB/s and write at 90MB/s.
Samsung’s eMMC PRO memory chips are based on 64Gb 10nm class NAND flash technology and support eMMC 5.0 standard which is nearing completion at JEDEC.
The announcement of mobile-related hardware comes at a crucial time when the rumours of a next-generation Galaxy Note device are rife. Samsung recently announced the faster and better Exynos 5 Octa and 3GB LPDDR3 RAM that will be used in future high-end devices.
