Samsung has announced new Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini variants that will take advantage of both TDD-LTE (Time-Division Duplex) and FDD-LTE (Frequency Division Duplex) technologies. Since different markets use either of the LTE technologies, a phone supporting TDD-LTE won’t work with FDD-LTE and vice versa. But with the seamless handover technology support, these new variants will be able to enjoy voice and data and hop from different type of LTE network.
Majority of the markets use FDD-LTE and with the rise of TDD-LTE – which will also be used by Reliance Jio in India – the devices will enable global LTE roaming a possibility.
Samsung hasn’t revealed other details like the availability or even the processor, but we can safely assume it will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon since the international LTE variant of the Galaxy S4 is powered by the Snapdragon 600 SoC.
