Two third of the world’s population does not have access to the internet and to make it accessible to them, major technology companies, including Samsung have announced an initiative – Internet.org.
Companies like Facebook, Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung will work together on projects, share knowledge and work with the industry and governments to bring the 5 billion people online.
To put it simply, companies will devise ways to create affordable technology with low-cost devices and implement better caching and data compression technology that can help save the cost of delivering data to the users.
This new initiative has big potential to help accelerate access to the Internet for everyone. We’re focused on delivering high quality mobile devices to ensure that the next five billion people have great mobile Internet experiences. – JK Shin
