Samsung develops 13MP camera sensor with improved OIS

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has announced the development of a new camera sensor that boasts the best optical image stabilisation (OIS) in a 13MP sensor. The new sensor that will be showcased this week features a correction angle of 1.5 degrees compared to 0.7 degrees found on most digital cameras. The higher the ability to correct an angular error, the better the tolerance to shake, thus resulting in a sharper picture.

Furthermore, Samsung claims the 10.5×10.5×5.9mm module improves low-light pictures by 8 times, consumes less power than its existing camera modules and supports full HD video recording.

Samsung plans to mass produce the module early next year.
