Google today confirmed the release of Android 4.4 KitKat for Nexus and Google Play edition devices. Samsung devices like the Nexus 10 and the Galaxy S4 Google Play edition will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update in the coming weeks. Interestingly, Galaxy Nexus has been left out of the update roll out citing it “falls outside of the 18-month update window.”
Although the reason for the Galaxy Nexus is understandable, it could have been a great marketing strategy for Google as one of the highlights of the new update is the optimisation to make it smoother on lower spec’d devices.
Android 4.4 brings in lots of improvements like improved memory management, voice search, faster multitasking, improved caller ID, infrared port support, easier home screen switching, low-power audio playback, step counting and lots more.
