Samsung Electronics has joined the OpenPOWER Foundation, IBM announced today. The OpenPOWER Foundation for the uninitiated is based on IBM’s Power microprocessor architecture.

Samsung along with other OpenPOWER members will work on to build advanced server, networking, storage and acceleration technology for data centers. The release also states that the foundation “will also make Power hardware and software available to open development as well as making Power intellectual property licensable to others.”
