Samsung launched the KNOX service in October last year and with over 1 million active KNOX users, the Korean giant today announced the arrival of KNOX 2.0 with improved security and support.
The new KNOX 2.0 now comes with TrustZone-Protected Certificate Management that generates and maintains client certificates inside Trustzone; KNOX Key Store that generates and maintains encryption keys inside the TrustZone protected environment; Real-Time monitoring that checks for any compromise in the kernel as well as system partition; TrustZone-Protected ODE that encrypts the data stored in the device through the TrustZone-protected encryption key and disables it if the device is compromised; Two-factor Biometric Authentication that makes it more secure with a fingerprint and password verification; Supports per-app VPN functions for SSL VPN solutions.
KNOX 2.0 now also supports most Android apps from the Play Store and does not require a separate wrapping process to make the apps secure; same level of hardware-based security for other secure container solutions; and dual APN support that can be used to segregate the data traffic usage of enterprise apps from that of personal apps.
KNOX 2.0 also supports cloud-based Mobile Device Management and a marketplace for all KNOX related apps.
KNOX 2.0 will be released in Q2 2014 for existing KNOX-enabled devices after upgrading to Android 4.4 while the latest version of KNOX will be pre-installed in Galaxy S5.
