NTT Docomo has confirmed that they’ll conduct experimental trials of 5G technology with Samsung and five other mobile technology vendors. The other vendors include Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Fujitsu, NEC and Nokia and Docomo will undertake trial to “confirm the potential of 5G mobile technologies to exploit frequency bands above 6GHz and realize very high system capacity per unit area.”
Companies are working to do a commercial deployment of 5G by 2020 with even Samsung tasting some success in the past on the development of a core 5G-related technology. With 5G, we’re looking at a data transmission speed of more than 10Gbps.
Samsung is fully committed to the research and development of 5G technology, as evident by the recent success of our development and feasibility verification of the millimeter-wave cellular prototype. As part of our ongoing efforts in the standardization and commercialization of 5G mobile communications, we are very excited to collaborate with DOCOMO and expect to see considerable synergy in the partnership.
