Samsung Ventures, the investment arm of Samsung Electronics, has confirmed that they’ve funded BlueStacks. There’s no word on the investment price but according to TechCrunch, Samsung has invested about $13 million.
The company came to light with its app that allowed users to run Android apps on their Windows or Mac PC but Gamepop is why Samsung has invested in.
Bluestacks announced Gamepop in 2013 as a white-label solution for cable companies and TV manufacturers to bring mobile gaming to TV. Since then many game publishers like Ubisoft, Warner Brothers, GREE have signed up to facilitate better gaming experience on a large-screen TV.
The size of the mobile gaming market, combined with the unique technology BlueStacks has developed for these games to run smoothly on TV made this an easy choice for us. The control mechanic they have developed for mobile gaming on TV makes it feel like the games were developed for TV in the first place. It’s very impressive.
