Samsung entered into a partnership with the PGA earlier this year and the partnership has resulted into a dedicated golf app meant for Samsung Smart TVs. The PGA Championship TV App is an event-based golf experience app that will work with 2013 and 2014 Smart TVs and will enable golf viewers an interactive way to enjoy the PGA Championship with exclusive content. The app will also be available on select Samsung Galaxy devices.
Some of the exclusive content include:
Broadcast Mode, which allows users to complement and customize their PGA Championship viewing experience. While watching the championship (on TNT and CBS), Broadcast Mode will let users toggle between alternate LIVE video feeds (i.e. Par 3 Cam and Marquee Group), launch an interactive leaderboard, and keep tabs on their favorite golfers. It is the first time this technology has been offered in the sport of golf.
Pick the Hole Location Challenge Hosted by Jack Nicklaus, which lets users cast a live vote for the hole location to be used on No. 16 during the final round of the PGA Championship on August 10. For the first time during a major sporting event, fans using Samsung Smart TVs can vote in real time using interactive content triggered during the live broadcast from August 7-9, using their Samsung TV remote. Voting will conclude August 9 at 7 p.m. EDT.
Multiscreen Functionality, which allows consumers to seamlessly pair their TV and mobile devices through the companion Android app to create a robust golf experience. They can view the live championship action and exclusive content on their mobile devices, share the action with family and friends by casting live video streams, custom leaderboards and event highlights to their 2014 Smart TVs.
