Samsung has announced that they’ve successfully managed to overcome the limitations to commercialise 802.11ad standard 60GHz Wi-Fi technology. The new Wi-Fi technology will enable high transmission speeds going up to 4.6Gbps or 575MBps, which is five times faster than the prevalent Wi-Fi standard or 866Mbps or 108MBps.
Samsung says their 802.11ad standard allows the Wi-Fi to maintain maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, irrespective of the number of devices connected to the same wireless network, an inherent issue with 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies. Furthermore, they’ve adopted millimeter-wave circuit design technology along with beam-forming antenna to improve the overall wireless coverage.
Samsung plans to integrate this technology in number of products in the future once the 60GHz band spectrum is commercialised, which should be as early as next year.
