Ebola virus needs to be contained as soon as possible and Samsung is doing its bit by offering 3,000 smartphones to fight against the outbreak in Africa. Through United Nations Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs (OCHA), Samsung will donate Galaxy S3 Neo smartphones worth US$1 million.
Samsung says the devices will be used at 60 Ebola medical clinics in the Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and will be pre-loaded with UN’s Smart Health Pro mobile application that will help the medical staff collect medical data while the quarantined patients can use it for their personal use. Samsung also notes that all donated smartphones will be destroyed once the virus outbreak has subsided.
Additionally, Samsung has launched Ebola SMS service in South Africa and is also offering financial support for the purchase of hazmat suits in Ghana and distribution of hand sanitizers in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
