Samsung’s CES press conference concentrated mainly on home appliances but the company started off by revealing a portable and stylish looking SSD T1. The drive is smaller than an average business card, weighs about an ounce and comes in a black chrome metal coating and laser patterning.
The drive is basically an external storage device with a solid state drive instead of a conventional hard drive. It boasts capacities of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB and takes advantage of Samsung’s proprietary 3D V-NAND technology that gives sequential read/write speeds of up to 450MB/s. To put it in perspective, the SSD T1 can transfer a 10GB file in 27 seconds compared to 85 seconds on a normal hard drive.
Additionally, the SSD T1 boasts security features like AES 256-bit hardware encryption, shock resistant up to 1500G/0.5ms and Dynamic Thermal Guard support that activates in extreme temperature conditions to protect the drive and any stored data.
The SSD T1 pricing starts from $179.99 and goes up to $599.99.
I checked out the drive a few hours ago and it’s amazing how such a light and slightly larger than a match-box device can hold up to 1TB of data. Check out a few images below.
