Samsung recently announced a 128GB UFS 2.0-based memory solution for high-end devices and today they have announced a similar large storage option that will soon be available in mid-range smartphones and tablets.
The new 128GB is 3-bit NAND based eMMC 5.0 solution and though it is not as fast as the UFS 2.0 counterpart, the new 128GB eMMC 5.0 still delivers 260MB/s for sequential data reading and up to 6,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second) and 5,000 IOPS for read and write respectively, making the solution four and ten times faster than an external memory card.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed which devices they will use this storage solution with but considering how Samsung announces new technology weeks before a product announcement, expect something soon.
