Samsung’s production of 14nm processor has not only made it one of the selling points for its Galaxy S6 family but the semiconductors division has been getting some attention as well. Qualcomm, who originally contracted its Snapdragon processors in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) foundry has approached Samsung for its next-generation Snapdragon processors.
According to a report on Re/Code, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 will be manufactured in Samsung’s foundry using 14nm process. Previous generation Snapdragon SoCs fabricated out of TSMC uses 20nm process.
Samsung is currently the second largest semiconductor manufacturer after Intel and Samsung has been pumping in serious money to expand its semiconductor business and even plans to invest around $15 billion by 2017.
Samsung has even bagged an order from Apple to manufacture its Apple A9 processors based on 14nm process that will be used on the next-generation iPhone.
