Delayed or misplaced luggage is a common concern for travelers, which is why Samsung and Samsonite are creating a solution that will make your travels worry free. The suitcase both the companies are working on will feature a GPS system that will report its location. The owner will be able to track the bag’s exact location, notify them on their mobile device and in a future iteration, also message when the luggage has left the aircraft, about to join the carousel or even if someone has opened the bag.
There’s no tentative timeline as to when will a retail product like this will hit the market but Samsonite’s executive has made it clear that they’re working with the Korean company to “create something that is more than a gimmick.”
Only time will tell if it’s a gimmick or not but for now, the concept of tracking luggage and not losing it while hopping different timezone sounds promising.
