Samsung has been focusing on Internet of Things (IoT) mainly through software, however, today’s announcement of Artik, a chip that will power Internet of Things (IoT) devices puts them in the hardware race with the likes of Intel and Qualcomm.

According to CNET, Artik will be segregated into Artik 1, Artik 5 and Artik 10. It’s not clear how and where will Samsung use the different tiers.

Samsung is trumpeting the importance of IoT with SmartThings’ acquisition last year and even dedicated a keynote at the CES earlier this year.
