In four separate incidents, Samsung’s top loading washing machine caught fire in Australia resulting in property damage. According to Sydney Morning Herald report, the fire was due to one of Samsung’s washing machines that were recalled in 2013 but weren’t repaired for the defect.
The six recalled models faced a water leakage problem that resulted in an electrical fire or smoke and according to Samsung there are 83,686 machines (out of 150,000) still in the wild that needs to be serviced.
Samsung also confirmed that there have been 181 incidents reported so far but the report says there could be many more as fire department does not report the “brand of appliance that causes an electrical fire.”
Samsung is offering a free in-home safety check for all owners of the affected models.
