There are a few videos doing the rounds on the internet claiming Samsung batteries are responsible for secretly uploading private data like images and videos, thus invading user privacy. The most recent one we’ve received on Whatsapp (uploaded below) and though we’re not sure how and where such a rumour originate from, it’s better to nip this in the bud before it goes out of hand.
No, the chip embedded in the Samsung battery does not upload automatically. It is, in fact, an NFC (Near Field Communication) chip that has multiple uses like allowing users to pair easily with NFC-enabled speakers, transfer content between devices that needs a user intervention and even make a contactless payment.
For our non-Hindi readers, the guy in the video basically accuses Samsung of stealing private data from the Galaxy device and offers a remedy by removing the NFC chip from the battery.
