Samsung today announced their latest SSD range targeted at high-performance laptops and PCs. The 950 PRO SSD is the first from Samsung that boasts a Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) M.2 form factor and features V-NAND technology. The result is improved speed, reliability, power efficient and increased battery life.
Supporting the PCIe Gen.3 x4 interface and the NVMe protocol, the Samsung 950 PRO offers improved random and sequential speed over Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) interface. The drive will be available in 512GB and 256GB and the 512GB variant sequential read/write speeds reach up to 2,500 MB/s and 1,500 MB/s respectively. Additionally, the random read performance is up to 300,000 IOPS whereas the write speed is 110,000 IOPS.
The 950 PRO SSD also features AES 256-bit Full Disk Encryption to protect data and Dynamic Thermal Guard that helps protect the device and data in extreme weather from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius and withstand physical shock of up to 1500G/0.5ms and vibrations up to 20G.
Both drives will start selling in October in US for $199.99 (256GB) and $349.99 (512GB).
