Wearable devices will soon be able to take advantage of Samsung’s new bio-processor that has gone into mass production. Samsung’s bio-processor is touted as an all-in-one health solution chip that integrates Analog Front Ends (AFE), but also microcontroller unit (MCU), power management integrated circuit (PMIC), digital signal processor (DSP), and eFlash memory.
This means Samsung’s solution is a one-stop shop to measure body fat, skeletal muscle mass, heart rate, heart rhythm, skin temperature and stress level.
Samsung expects the first device to sport such a sensor will come in the first half of 2016 but to show the use cases, the company is demonstrating various devices with the bio-processor embedded like a wrist band, board or a patch.
