Samsung today announced the arrival of its flagship phones – Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in the Indian market. The phones will be available in India from March 18 carrying a price tag of Rs. 48,900 (Galaxy S7) and Rs. 56,900 (Galaxy S7 edge).
The new Galaxy S flagships build on last year’s hardware and design and brings in better performance and refined design. The phones fuse metal and glass but has curved sides at the back, akin to the Galaxy Note 5 that makes them easier to hold.
However, the biggest improvement in the design department is the IP68 water and dust resistance.
Speaking of hardware, it comes with the Exynos 8890 octa-core processor based on 2nd-gen 14nm FinFET process, 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB of UFS 2.0 internal memory. The last generation missed out the microSD card slot, which was one of the highlights of owning a Galaxy S smartphone and the microSD card slot now makes a comeback with the integration of a hybrid SIM+card slot that allows the card to expand to up to 200GB.
The phones also introduce Dual Pixel 12 megapixel f/1.7 camera that helps in brighter and sharper images with Smart OIS and a 5 megapixel (f/1.7) on the front. Both devices also support fast charging on wired and wireless charger and features NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, fingerprint sensor, heart rate sensor and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Couple of differences between the devices are display, which is a 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge respectively and 3000mAh (Galaxy S7) and 3600mAh battery (Galaxy S7 edge).
Samsung is accepting pre-booking of the phones and all eligible buyers will receive a free Gear VR along with the purchase during the pre-booking period.
