It’s no secret that Samsung is betting big on Virtual Reality (VR) and another effort to promote the technology is Bedtime VR Stories app. The app is intended for parents narrating bedtime stories to children, however, this time, it’s done through technology, making the location of the parent and the child irrelevant.
As you can see from the image below, the parent and the child both have to wear a VR headset where “the app creates a VR story environment where parent and child can see and interact with each other, for an immersive shared experience”.
The app is still under testing but Samsung is giving us a taste with the 360-degree video below.
The idea seems to be innovative but I find it self-defeating. Bedtime stories are narrated to make the child sleep but given how these VR stories require a headset to be attached on the child’s head, I’m not sure how comfortable would they be wearing it at night. Also, at one hand, Samsung has an app advocating a safe distance between the mobile device and eyes but a VR headset would mean to see content from a close distance.
