Last week Samsung introduced a new range of UFS-based memory cards that offers superior performance when compared to the current breed of fastest microSD cards. However, as amazing as it sounds, there’s not a single device in the market that can take advantage of this technology. To make it possible, Samsung has confirmed that they have created a memory socket that will allow a user to insert a microSD card or their UFS card. In short, it will be like a hybrid slot but just for your memory card.
According to the statement given to Droid-Life, Samsung is working industry partners to integrate this technology in future devices.
Given the timely announcement of UFS cards, we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note7 comes with the same socket.
Samsung’s UFS cards have a maximum storage capacity of 256GB but it’s the speed that makes it special. UFS cards boast a sequential write speed of up to 170MB/s and a read speed of up to 530MB/s.
