Samsung has announced its acquisition of Viv Labs that offers an open artificial intelligence (AI) platform to companies to build “conversational assistants and integrate a natural language-based interface into renowned applications and services”.
Samsung has not revealed the details of the transaction but says they’re committed to virtual personal assistants and the acquisition will help them to deliver an AI-based open ecosystem across its devices and services. For instance, with Viv, Samsung will be able to offer new service experiences like simplifying user interfaces, understand the context of the user and offers the most appropriate and convenient suggestions and recommendations.
Just like the recent acquisitions, the Viv team will operate independently with its existing team.
Unlike other existing AI-based services, Viv has a sophisticated natural language understanding, machine learning capabilities and strategic partnerships that will enrich a broader service ecosystem. Viv was built with both consumers and developers in mind. This dual focus is also what attracted us to Viv as an ideal candidate to integrate with Samsung home appliances, wearables and more, as the paradigm of how we interact with technology shifts to intelligent interfaces and voice control.
