In late September, Samsung confirmed that they were in talks with the CPSC about washing machines in the United States and today the government body and Samsung have come forward recalling around 2.8 million top-loading washing machines. The voluntary recall involves 34 models manufactured from March 2011 where the high-speed spin cycle causes the top to detach and pose a risk of injury.
Samsung is currently offering two options to affected customers. First is the free in-home repair where users opting for one will also get an additional one-year warranty and the second option is a rebate that can be applied towards purchasing of new washing machine, Samsung or any other brand. While the rebate amount varies according to the date of manufacture, any customer opting for a new Samsung washing machine will also get a loyalty incentive of up to $150.
