Samsung has signed a MoU with the Government of Karnataka, India to supply India-specific Galaxy Tab Iris tablets. As part of the agreement Samsung Research & Development Institute, Bangalore (SRI-B) will provide 1000 tablets that are said to be one of the first commercial tablets to be approved by UIDAI for Aadhaar and KYC verification.
The tablets will help public health centers to carry out verifications as well as help to manage welfare schemes and database in a digital format.
Galaxy Tab Iris is the first product from Samsung to support iris scanning but was developed mainly for government use and businesses. On the specification side, it is a lower-end tablet with a 7-inch WSVGA display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot up to 200GB, 1.5GB RAM and 3600mAh battery.
