Samsung ordered to pay $11.6m to Huawei

Samsung’s legal battle against Huawei in China took a new turn today as Quanzhou Intermediary Court in China today ordered three Samsung subsidiaries to pay 80 million yuan ($11.6 million) to Huawei technologies. The court rules that Samsung did infringe on Huawei’s patent and is first of the rulings in multiple lawsuits.

As expected, Huawei has welcomed the court’s decision while Samsung has refrained from commenting before reviewing the verdict.

Last May, Huawei sued Samsung alleging patent infringement relating to 4G, operating system and user interface and couple of months later Samsung countersued the Chinese smartphone maker after trying to resolve the issue “amicably”.
