Samsung today announced an 800GB Z-SSD (SZ985) targeted at businesses and enterprise applications like artificial intelligence (AI), big data and Internet of Things (IoT). The new SSD offers high-speed cache data and log data processing along with high-reliability, making it an apt choice for businesses.
The new Z-SSD features Z-NAND chips that offer superior cell read performance compared to 3-bit V-NAND chips, along with 1.5GB LPDDR4 DRAM and a high-performance controller. If we were to talk about random read performance, the Z-SSD has a speed of up to 750K IOPS along with a random write speed of up to 170K. The write latency is at 16ms compared to Samsung’s NVMe-based PM963 SSD and a guarantee of up to 30 drive writes per day (DWPD) for five years, or a total of 42 petabytes.
In addition to 800GB, the new Z-SSD will also come in 240GB storage option and will showcase the drive at ISSCC 2018 (International Solid-State Circuits Conference) in San Francisco next month.
